is the living tradition of unbroken continuity of teachers, coming down
from our historical Buddha Gotama. The Venerable Mahasi
Sayadaw is a Burmese thera internationally known under this title, but
his proper páli name is Bhikkhu Sobhana, which he has obtained at
the time of his ordination. He was appointed as the presiding thera of the
Sixth Council due to his being the leading authority on Dhamma at our
modern times. He is also recognized as a meditation master of highest
rank. Amongst his contemporaries was the Burmese Thera Vimala (Mogok
Sayadaw, a pupil of Ledi Sayadaw) whose teaching is close to the Ayukusala.
However the main link to the Mahasi tradition was established by the
German Thera Nyanaponika and the Sinhalese Thera Piyadassi. The Thera
Nyanaponika was older than Mahasi Sayadaw and became his pupil in the year
1954 having already known the tradition out of which came Venerable Mahasi
Sayadaw. The Czech-Swiss Thera Kusalananda, that time known as Dr.Mirko Frýba,
became a pupil of Mahasi Sayadaw in 1975 in Yangon and has brought him
then to Switzerland, where they conducted together an intensive satipatthána-vipassaná
retreat in 1979. The Venerable Nyanaponika
Thera was the first of all our teachers to use in 1973 the name
Ayukusala for the way of teaching Dhamma developed by him and Dr. Mirko Frýba.
Since 1972, they conducted both introductory and intensive satipatthána-vipassaná
retreats for a group of psychologists and psychiatrists in Berne,
Switzerland. The Venerable Piyadassi
Thera was the first of all our teachers to introduce the Ayukusala to
Asian Buddhists.in 1977. Then in 1978 he was the first monk to conduct
together with Dr.Frýba an intensive satipatthána-vipassaná retreat for
general public on European Continent in Zermatt, Switzerland. The Venerable Rewatadhamma
Thera is the most senior Burmese monk living in the West, known also
as the Birmingham Sayadaw. He is a patron of the Ayukusala Central
European Sangha and preceptor (upajjhaya) of the four Ayukusala monks
ordained in 2003 in the Mahasi Sasana Yeiktha in Yangon. The Venerable Nyanissara
Thera, also known as Sitagu Sayadaw is a senior Burmese monk who has
collaborated in the Abhidhamma Seminars of Ayukusala in Oxford, England
since 1982. He is a teacher (acarya) of one of the Ayukusala monks
ordained in 2003 in the Mahasi Sasana Yeiktha in Yangon. The Venerable Satimant
Thera is the abbot of Forest Monastery Sri Dalada Tapovane in Kandy,
Sri Lanka. He is in charge of training the Ayukusala monks in Vinaya since
1999. The Venerable Anuruddha
Thera is the abbot of Forest Monastery Weduwa Aranya in Koggala, Sri
Lanka. He is in charge of the Ayukusala basic sámanera training since
2000. The Venerable Satindriya
Thera is a Sinhalese monk living in Australia and organizing the
advanced monastic training of Ayukusala monks in Sri Lanka since 2000. The Venerable Kusalananda
Thera is the chief monk (mahá náyaka) of the Ayukusala Central
European Sangha, therefore known also as the Ayukusala Sayadaw in Myanmar
or the Ayukusala Hamuduru in Sri Lanka. Ven. Bhikkhu Akasakusala, Ven. Bhikkhu Atarikusala, Ven. Bhikkhu Hitakusala, Ven. Sámanera Santakusala, Ven.Bhikkhu Tiranakusala, and one Ayukusala nun Ven. Ayya Vajirá. See the full version of the text on: Úplný text, rozvíjejí téma:
